Job Responsibilities

Scrubs and circulates on cases as assigned.
Prepares for surgical cases in an efficient manner, anticipating needs of patient, surgeon, anesthesia, and other operating room team members.
Maintains knowledge of equipment set-up and function.
Initiates and directs room clean up and turnover.
Initiates/maintains patient/family education and safety throughout the perioperative experience.
Provides a safe environment for patient and staff by implementing standards of aseptic technique.
Collects and analyzes data and assesses patient in developing nursing diagnosis.
Serves as a resource and role model in clinical practice.
Collaborates with management on supply/budget issues, employee concerns/issues, and physician concerns/issues.
Communicates professionally at all times with staff, physicians and other departments.
Coordinates the flow of the assigned room.
Coordinates schedule with manager.
Interviews potential team members, as needed.
Leads daily department huddles.
Maintains a high level of visibility and interaction with staff and physicians.
Facilitates changes on surgeon preference cards.
Ensures that equipment and supplies are available for assigned cases.

Required Skills

Core Skills

Possession of a current or compact state license as a registered nurse issued/defined by the State of Iowa.
Two years’ experience as an operating room nurse.
Basic Life Support certified within six weeks of hire.
Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to population served within three months of hire.
Ability to read, write and speak English.
Strong interpersonal skills with staff, management, and physicians.
