Job Responsibilities
- Provide nursing care to patients with chronic, acute, and terminal health problems, under minimal supervision of a registered nurse/provider.
- Implement basic and advanced LPN procedures as defined by policies and procedures of WVAMC.
- Collect data on the physical and psychological needs of assigned patients and assist in prioritizing immediate needs.
- Safely handle, prepare, administer, and record medications and treatments in accordance with policy.
- Recognize subtle abnormal signs and symptoms and/or changes in patients' condition and notify the RN Care Manager.
- Demonstrate knowledge, skill, and ability to recognize and respond appropriately to emergency situations.
- Provide patient and family health education and execute skills, such as motivational interviewing to promote self-management.
- Perform nursing care procedures and support duties for complex diagnostic tests and specialized practices.
- Document care appropriately in CPRS and clear all clinical reminders.
- Perform venipuncture and handle lab specimens according to WVAMC policies.
- Establish professional relationships with patients and co-workers.
- Serve as a mediator for patient, families, and colleagues to improve communication.
- Report potential or actual medication errors to supervising RN timely.
- Identify infection control issues and intervene appropriately.

Requirements
Experience: At least 1 year of additional qualifying experience at the GS-5 level or equivalent.
Education: Graduate of an approved school of practical or vocational nursing.
License & Certification:
- Active, full, current and unrestricted licensure as a Graduate Licensed Practical or Vocational Nurse.
Schedule:
- Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM
COVID-19 Requirements: Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is required.
