Job Responsibilities

  • Ensure and deliver high quality, patient-centered care and coordination of functions in the unit during the designated shift.
  • Collaborate with other management team members to direct, monitor, and evaluate nursing care.
  • Serve as a resource person for staff and model a commitment to the organization’s vision/mission/values.
  • Mentor and support the team to achieve the best outcomes for patients.
  • Provide day-to-day clinical management of the labor and delivery unit.
  • Perform therapeutic patient-centered nursing care to delivering mothers as needed.
  • Participate in patient and family education, acting as a role model for staff.
  • Support personnel management functions such as interviewing, hiring, orientation, training, performance management, and scheduling.
  • Motivate, train, and champion staff to reach their professional goals.
  • Ensure compliance with professional, regulatory, governmental, and organizational standards.
  • Maintain cultural awareness when dealing with patients, visitors, co-workers, and other customers.

Requirements

Experience: 3+ years of current nursing experience in an acute care hospital setting; 1 year of labor and delivery and/or mother-baby nursing experience preferred; 1 year of leadership experience in a hospital setting preferred.

Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing (BSN preferred).

License & Certification:

  • Current Registered Nurse License in Virginia or Current Multistate Compact License
  • American Red Cross or American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS or BCLS) Certification
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
