Job Responsibilities

  • Perform ongoing assessment/data collection focusing on physiological, psychosocial, cultural, spiritual, cognitive status, nutrition, pain, education, family involvement, and advocacy.
  • Formulate a goal-directed plan of care as appropriate.
  • Implement care in a thorough, skillful, consistent, and continuous manner.
  • Establish priorities for patient care based on essential needs and available resources.
  • Identify patient/family learning needs and act to meet them.
  • Demonstrate awareness of and sensitivity to patient/family rights and diverse needs.
  • Provide and coordinate care for patient populations.
  • Establish effective working relationships with healthcare team members, patients, and families.
  • Delegate appropriately and coordinate duties of healthcare team members.
  • Evaluate effectiveness of care given by healthcare team members.
  • Utilize effective communication methods and skills.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of safety principles within the institution.
  • Perform efficiently in emergency situations following established protocols.
  • Demonstrate responsibility and accountability for professional practice.
  • Participate regularly in staff development activities.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of legal issues regarding patient confidentiality and risk management.
  • Participate in performance improvement activities as directed.

  • Provide data for staffing decisions and demonstrate flexibility in staffing issues.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in computer and telecommunication use for documentation and communication.
  • Document patient care and unit activities in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Formulate prioritized goal-directed plans based on nursing diagnoses.
  • Implement appropriate measures for identified patient/family learning needs.

Required Skills

Core Skills

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the RN scope of practice
  • Effective written and oral communication skills in English
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Basic Arrhythmia recognition skills

Preferred Skills

  • Training in chemotherapy, neurosurgery, telemetry, or other specialties
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (within 6 months of hire)
  • Basic Life Support certification

Requirements

Experience: Six months recent experience in an acute care setting or completion of orientation in the KP New Graduate/Residency Training Program.

Education: High School Diploma/GED and graduate of an accredited registered nursing program.

License & Certification:

  • Registered Nurse License (California)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (within 6 months of hire)
  • Basic Life Support
