Job Responsibilities
- Functions as part of the dialysis health care team in providing safe and effective dialysis therapy for patients.
- Responsible for the setup and operation of hemodialysis machines.
- Assist in the maintenance of a safe and clean working environment.
- Support the organization's commitment to the Quality Enhancement Program (QEP) and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) Activities.
- Assist in providing patient-specific detailed education regarding adequacy measures.
- Welcome assigned patients and inquire about their wellbeing since their last treatment.
- Evaluate vascular access for patency, perform vascular access cannulation, and perform administration of heparin.
- Obtain necessary pre and post treatment vital signs and weight.
- Initiate dialysis treatment according to prescribed orders.
- Evaluate intradialytic problems and provide intervention as prescribed.
- Monitor patients’ response to dialysis therapy.
- Perform all relevant functions necessary for the discontinuation of treatment.
- Evaluate the patient prior to discharge.
- Document all relevant treatment and evaluation data accurately and timely.
- Assist in training applicable direct patient care staff under the supervision of a nurse.
- Maintain environmental integrity and aesthetics by ensuring all areas are safe and clean.
- Assist in infection control audits and support adherence to infection control practices.
- Follow newly admitted patients through their first 4 weeks of dialysis.
Required Skills
Core Skills
- Patient care experience in a hospital setting or a related facility.
- Ability to perform dialysis treatment and monitor patient responses.
- Strong communication skills for patient education.
Preferred Skills
- Completion of dialysis training program.
- CPR certification.
Requirements
Experience: Previous patient care experience preferred.
Education: High School diploma or G.E.D. required.
License & Certification:
- Must meet CMS-approved state and/or national certification requirements.
