Job Responsibilities

Provide care to general surgery and trauma patients at a level 1 trauma hospital.
Provide coverage to a 24 hour/7 day a week service line.
Obtain pertinent medical history and perform appropriate physical exams.
Order and interpret pertinent lab and/or X-ray studies and convey information to attending physicians.
Document all patient care within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and complete all necessary tasks in compliance with health system policies and regulatory agencies to ensure timely and accurate billing.
Counsel patients on pre and post-operative care, post-trauma care, recovery and expectations.
Round with residents/students.
Occasionally assist surgeons by providing first assistant surgical services.
Assist attending surgeons in the hospital by making patient rounds and recording pertinent information in the patient’s medical record.
Prescribe medications within scope of practice and Arizona law.
Perform bedside procedures within scope of practice and delineation of privileges.
Keep medical knowledge and skills current through regular CME activity.
Maintain appropriate licensure required for the role and active privileges at the hospital.
Comply with all applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures, supporting the health system’s corporate integrity efforts by acting in an ethical and appropriate manner.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Experience:

Education: Must hold a degree as a Physician Assistant (PA-C) or a Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN)

License & Certification:

AZ Regulatory Board of Physician Assistants License
NCCPA - National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistant
Valid DEA registration
Arizona Advanced Practice Nurse license
National Certificate as a nurse practitioner in area of specialty under AZ regulations
