Job Responsibilities

  • Provide care to general surgery and trauma patients at a level 1 trauma hospital.
  • Provide coverage to a 24 hour/7 day a week service line.
  • Obtain pertinent medical history and perform appropriate physical exams.
  • Order and interpret pertinent lab and/or X-ray studies and convey information to attending physicians.
  • Document all patient care within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and complete all necessary tasks in compliance with health system policies and regulatory agencies to ensure timely and accurate billing.
  • Counsel patients on pre and post-operative care, post-trauma care, recovery and expectations.
  • Round with residents/students.
  • Occasionally assist surgeons by providing first assistant surgical services.
  • Assist attending surgeons in the hospital by making patient rounds and recording pertinent information in the patient’s medical record.
  • Prescribe medications within scope of practice and Arizona law.
  • Perform bedside procedures within scope of practice and delineation of privileges.
  • Keep medical knowledge and skills current through regular CME activity.
  • Maintain appropriate licensure required for the role and active privileges at the hospital.
  • Comply with all applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures, supporting the health system’s corporate integrity efforts by acting in an ethical and appropriate manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Experience:

Education: Must hold a degree as a Physician Assistant (PA-C) or a Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN)

License & Certification:

  • AZ Regulatory Board of Physician Assistants License
  • NCCPA - National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistant
  • Valid DEA registration
  • Arizona Advanced Practice Nurse license
  • National Certificate as a nurse practitioner in area of specialty under AZ regulations
