Job Responsibilities
- Provide care to general surgery and trauma patients at a level 1 trauma hospital.
- Provide coverage to a 24 hour/7 day a week service line.
- Obtain pertinent medical history and perform appropriate physical exams.
- Order and interpret pertinent lab and/or X-ray studies and convey information to attending physicians.
- Document all patient care within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and complete all necessary tasks in compliance with health system policies and regulatory agencies to ensure timely and accurate billing.
- Counsel patients on pre and post-operative care, post-trauma care, recovery and expectations.
- Round with residents/students.
- Occasionally assist surgeons by providing first assistant surgical services.
- Assist attending surgeons in the hospital by making patient rounds and recording pertinent information in the patient’s medical record.
- Prescribe medications within scope of practice and Arizona law.
- Perform bedside procedures within scope of practice and delineation of privileges.
- Keep medical knowledge and skills current through regular CME activity.
- Maintain appropriate licensure required for the role and active privileges at the hospital.
- Comply with all applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures, supporting the health system’s corporate integrity efforts by acting in an ethical and appropriate manner.

Requirements
Experience:
Education: Must hold a degree as a Physician Assistant (PA-C) or a Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN)
License & Certification:
- AZ Regulatory Board of Physician Assistants License
- NCCPA - National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistant
- Valid DEA registration
- Arizona Advanced Practice Nurse license
- National Certificate as a nurse practitioner in area of specialty under AZ regulations
