Job Responsibilities

Prepares for surgical procedures by completing assessment of the patient and reviewing patient chart, diagnostics, and labs.
Reports abnormal results to physicians and other appropriate care givers.
Reviews patient history and physical and consent forms and assures completion.
Formulates and initiates plan of care based on patient specific needs and medical plan of care.
Plans care in collaboration with members of multidisciplinary team.
Reviews and revises the plan of care to reflect changes in patient needs.
Provides care based on physician orders and in compliance with policies and procedures, standards of care, and regulatory agency requirements.
Delegates appropriately, and provides nursing supervision in the provision of care to patients by other licensed nurses and personnel.
Promotes continuity of care by accurately communicating to other caregivers the status of patients.
Prepares for surgical procedure by ensuring appropriate supplies and instruments are available and room setup is appropriate.
Troubleshoots malfunctioning equipment and makes minor adjustments or calls biomedical equipment staff.
Checks schedule and plans ahead for upcoming surgical case needs.
Documents surgical procedures in the patient record in a timely manner.
Notes physician orders accurately and in a timely manner.
Demonstrates principles of aseptic technique and universal precautions throughout the procedure.
Participates in counting sharps, instruments and sponges and disposes of them appropriately.
Ensures that all surgeon preference cards are accurate.
Assists with OR turnover between cases.
Participates in stocking, replenishing supplies and cleaning operating rooms.
Participates in or leads training and orientation of surgical staff and students, as assigned.
Follows safety procedures regarding medication labeling, specimen handling, handling of sharps, time-out procedure, radiation and laser safety, and infection control.

Preferred Skills

Experience in Level 1 trauma OR setting.

Requirements

Experience: One year of operating room experience in the acute care setting.

Education: Associates Degree in Nursing, preferred Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.

License & Certification:

Current, valid RN license in the state of practice.
BLS certification.
ACLS certification.

Schedule:

36 hours per week
On call requirement
