Job Responsibilities

Prepares for surgical procedures by completing assessment of the patient and reviewing patient chart, diagnostics, and labs.
Reports abnormal results to physicians and other appropriate caregivers.
Reviews patient history and physical and consent forms and ensures completion.
Formulates and initiates plan of care based on patient-specific needs and medical plan of care.
Plans care in collaboration with members of the multidisciplinary team.
Reviews and revises the plan of care to reflect changes in patient needs.
Provides care based on physician orders and in compliance with policies and procedures, standards of care, and regulatory agency requirements.
Delegates appropriately and provides nursing supervision in the provision of care to patients by other licensed nurses and personnel.
Promotes continuity of care by accurately and completely communicating the status of patients to other caregivers.
Prepares for surgical procedure by ensuring all appropriate supplies and instruments are available and room set up is appropriate.
Troubleshoots malfunctioning equipment and makes minor adjustments or calls biomedical equipment staff.
Checks schedule and plans ahead for upcoming surgical case needs.
Documents surgical procedure in the patient record timely and in accordance with policy.
Notes physician orders accurately and in a timely manner.
Demonstrates the principles of aseptic technique and universal precautions throughout the procedure.
Participates in counting sharps, instruments, and sponges.
Disposes of sharps and trash appropriately in designated areas.
Ensures that all surgeon preference cards are accurate.
Assists with OR turnover between cases.
Participates in stocking, replenishing supplies and cleaning operating rooms.
Participates in or leads the training and orientation of surgical staff and students as assigned.
Follows safety procedures in regard to medication labeling, appropriate handling of specimens, handling of sharps, time-out procedure, radiation and laser safety, and infection control.

Experience in Level 1 trauma OR setting

Requirements

Experience: One year of operating room experience in the acute care setting

Education: Associates Degree in Nursing

License & Certification:

Current, valid RN license in the state of practice
BLS certification
ACLS certification
