Job Responsibilities

Prepare for surgical procedures by completing assessment of the patient and reviewing patient chart, diagnostics, and labs.
Report abnormal results to physicians and other appropriate caregivers.
Review patient history and physical and consent forms and assure completion.
Formulate and initiate plan of care based on patient-specific needs and medical plan of care.
Plan care in collaboration with members of the multidisciplinary team.
Review and revise the plan of care to reflect changes in patient needs.
Provide care based on physician orders and in compliance with policies and procedures.
Delegate appropriately and provide nursing supervision in the provision of care to patients by other licensed nurses and personnel.
Promote continuity of care by accurately communicating the status of patients to other caregivers.
Prepare for surgical procedures by ensuring all appropriate supplies and instruments are available and room setup is appropriate.
Troubleshoot malfunctioning equipment and make minor adjustments or call biomedical equipment staff.
Check schedule and plan ahead for upcoming surgical case needs.
Document surgical procedures in the patient record in a timely manner.
Demonstrate principles of aseptic technique and universal precautions throughout the procedure.
Participate in counting sharps, instruments, and sponges.
Dispose of sharps and trash appropriately in designated areas.
Ensure that all surgeon preference cards are accurate.
Assist with OR turnover between cases.
Participate in stocking, replenishing supplies, and cleaning operating rooms.
Participate in or lead training and orientation of surgical staff and students.

Experience in Level 1 trauma OR setting

Requirements

Experience: One year of operating room experience in the acute care setting

Education: Associates Degree in Nursing

License & Certification:

Current valid RN license in the state of practice
BLS certification
ACLS certification

Schedule:

36 hours per week
On call requirement
