Job Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, and coordinate continuing nursing in-service education programs for clinical and non-clinical nursing staff.
  • Enhance professional practice and quality patient care through evidence-based educational programs.
  • Coordinate and lead the facility’s infection prevention and control program.
  • Determine, prevent, and contain infectious outbreaks within the facility.
  • Facilitate orientation/onboarding programs to promote employee retention.
  • Conduct orientation in a manner that fosters a positive learning environment.
  • Design and identify educational activities to address practice gaps for various healthcare personnel.
  • Identify learning needs of staff and assess practice gaps.
  • Collaborate with Corporate Nursing Director/Educator to review outcomes data.
  • Assist with developing and instructing didactic content and clinical skills.
  • Develop education plans according to gap assessments or quality data.
  • Implement and deliver educational curricula as required by regulatory agencies.
  • Create engaging educational content for specific audience needs.
  • Demonstrate exceptional instructional skills while maintaining learner engagement.
  • Act as a general resource for nursing staff.
  • Collaborate with medical practitioners to incorporate nursing processes into patient care.
  • Provide educational leadership to patients and care providers.
  • Promote safe, quality, and compassionate patient care.
  • Assist patients and caregivers with education needs and health management.
  • Educate direct patient care staff in the use of equipment and supplies.
  • Support new ideas and innovation in educational design.
  • Provide staff with resources and 'just-in-time' education.
  • Communicate therapeutically and professionally with patients and coworkers.
  • Conduct ongoing surveillance of infections and gather data to keep accurate records.
  • Compile and present Infection Reports to the Safety/Infection Control Committee.
  • Inspect environment and personnel activities to detect infection hazards.
  • Monitor compliance with standards set by facility policy and industry.
  • Investigate all exposure incidents and oversee follow-up processes.
  • Notify appropriate authorities of reportable communicable diseases.
  • Develop and provide in-service and orientation programs on infection prevention.
  • Train staff on infection prevention and control protocols.
  • Provide expertise in identifying professional development needs of staff.
  • Assist staff to identify areas for growth and skill enhancement.
  • Utilize novice to expert continuum when developing staff.

Required Skills

Core Skills

  • Strong knowledge of infection prevention and control protocols.
  • Exceptional instructional and communication skills.
  • Ability to assess practice gaps and identify learning needs.
  • Experience in developing educational programs and materials.

Preferred Skills

  • Certification as an NPD Practitioner or clinical certification.
  • Experience in Clinical Education/Training and Development.
  • Infection control certification preferred.

Requirements

Experience: 5+ years of experience as a registered nurse, 3 years required, with 2 years in behavioral health and inpatient psychiatry experience preferred.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in nursing required; Master’s degree preferred in related fields.

License & Certification:

  • Current state nursing license required.
  • Certification by the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology preferred.
  • CPR and de-escalation/restraint certification required.
