Job Responsibilities

Accompanies, assists, and represents the needs of patients to other providers.
Accurately provide care related to medication administration, skin and wound care, Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), and other essential patient care activities.
Develops, implements, evaluates, and modifies nursing care plans; prepares required records and reports.
Gathers and assesses information about patients to meet nursing needs; assists and consults with physicians during procedures and diagnostic tests.
Contacts physicians and/or other departments to obtain or provide patient information.
May provide oversight to staff monitoring telemetry systems; alerts primary nurse of changes in underlying rhythms and any life-threatening arrhythmias.
Interprets and posts telemetry strips as specified; admits and discharges patients with telemetry units as appropriate.
Organizes, supervises, and accepts responsibility for the quality of care provided to patients by co-workers.
Assumes responsibility as a team leader or charge nurse when assigned.
Participates in creating a healthful, safe, and therapeutic environment for patients and families.
Participates in implementing patient care standards, infection control standards, and quality assurance criteria.
Assists with conducting studies and participates in unit and other meetings.
Monitors patients for significant and critical changes and initiates procedures as required; documents care provided according to set standards.
Interprets and explains procedures, regimens, and services to patients and families; teaches health care and disease prevention techniques.
Prepares patients and/or areas for procedures and operations; assists physicians using instruments and equipment related to the area of assignment.

Requirements

Experience: Six months experience as a Clinical Nurse I with AHS or equivalent of one year full-time recent experience at a comparable level in a minimum 100-bed hospital.

Education: Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program required; Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred.

License & Certification:

Valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in California
ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification issued by AHA
BLS - Basic Life Support Certification issued by the American Heart Association
Certification in chemotherapy within one year of hire (for certain positions)
ONS certification within one year of hire (for inpatient med tele/oncology department)
Certification as a Public Health Nurse in California (for certain positions)
Completion of Perinatal Safety Modules within 3 months of hire (for certain positions)
Coronary Care Unit certification (for certain positions at Fairmont Hospital's Monitoring Unit)
TEAM Training (for all positions at John George Psychiatric Pavilion and certain positions in Emergency Department)
NRP - Neonatal Resuscitation Program Certification- AHA (for unit/department specialty)
PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support Certification- AHA (for Emergency Department or if overseeing pediatric care)
