Job Responsibilities

  • Provide basic nursing care to non-acutely ill patients within the Nursing Assistant's scope of practice that includes meeting psychosocial and physical needs.
  • Meet communication needs of patients.
  • Demonstrate initiative and responsibility expected of a Nursing Assistant.
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the Nursing Assistant's scope of practice.
  • Assist in admission, transfer, and discharge of patients.
  • Notify appropriate licensed personnel when patients complain of pain.
  • Communicate observed changes in patient status and responses to the RN.
  • Assist with feeding patients and maintaining fluid balance with appropriate techniques.
  • Provide explanations to patients and families prior to administering care, and answer questions within scope of practice.
  • Perform treatments and provide services within scope of practice.
  • Communicate appropriately and clearly to team leader, co-workers, and physicians.
  • Consult other departments as appropriate for an interdisciplinary approach to patient needs.
  • Provide care appropriate to the condition and age of the patient, including pediatric, geriatric, and general populations.
  • Perform all aspects of patient care in a safe environment to reduce medical/health care errors.
  • Assist physicians with procedures and perform services requiring technical and manual skills under RN supervision.
  • Be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.
  • Respond to patients in emergency or physically distressful situations.
  • Treat patients and families with respect and dignity.
  • Interact professionally with patients/families and involve them in the care plan.
  • Maintain good working relationships within and outside the department.
  • Meet current documentation standards and policies.
  • Manage and operate equipment safely and correctly.
  • Coordinate and supervise patient care under the direct supervision of an RN.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of disease entities.
  • Carry out medical and surgical asepsis during treatments and special procedures.

Required Skills

Core Skills

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Current AHA BLS certification
  • Ability to read and communicate effectively in English

Preferred Skills

  • Additional language skills
