Job Responsibilities

Provide supervisory leadership to staff level employees, coordinating activities with the department’s Manager.
Participate in performance appraisal of staff on applicable shift.
Participate in the hiring process, including providing hiring recommendations to the Manager.
Prepare documentation for possible disciplinary actions and make recommendations to the Manager.
Provide recommendations to the Manager for commendations, bonuses, or other appropriate forms of recognition for outstanding performance of employees on applicable shift.
Make work assignments and direct work activities.
Coordinate staff relief for meals, breaks, and meetings.
Project staffing needs for the next two shifts and coordinate adjustments in staffing level as needed.
Serve as clinical resource for all staff.
Check the emergency crash cart or ascertain that the cart has been checked.
Provide shift report to next Shift Leader or Charge Nurse.
Participate in making work schedules.
Complete all charge nurse duties as specified in nursing policy.
Demonstrate competency in critical skills, including addressing age-specific needs of the patient population served.
Provide professional nursing care on assigned unit.
Follow policies, procedures, and safety standards.
Complete required education assignments annually.
Work toward achieving goals and objectives and participate in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
Perform other duties as assigned.
