Job Responsibilities

  • Assist in providing patient specific education regarding adequacy measures.
  • Welcome assigned patients and inquire about their wellbeing since the last treatment.
  • Evaluate vascular access for patency and perform cannulation as permitted.
  • Obtain pre and post treatment vital signs and weight.
  • Initiate dialysis treatment according to prescribed orders.
  • Monitor patients’ response to dialysis therapy and perform necessary interventions.
  • Discontinue dialysis treatment per established procedures and evaluate patients prior to termination of venous access.
  • Document all relevant information regarding patient treatment accurately.
  • Conduct machine safety checks and report any unusual findings to the RN or supervisor.
  • Assist in training direct patient care staff under supervision of a nurse.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment between treatments.
  • Complete and document ongoing participation in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities.
  • Assist in collecting information for infection control audits and education of patients and families.
  • Follow newly admitted patients through their first 4 weeks of dialysis.
  • Liaise with FKC staff members to provide optimal patient experience.
  • Assist with coordination of transition to patient’s chosen modality.

Required Skills

Core Skills

  • Patient care experience in a hospital or related facility
  • Ability to perform vascular access and cannulation
  • Knowledge of dialysis procedures and machine operation
  • Ability to monitor and evaluate patient conditions
  • Strong communication and documentation skills

Preferred Skills

  • Certification in dialysis
  • CPR certification
  • Experience with Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI)
  • Understanding of infection control practices

Requirements

Experience: Previous patient care experience preferred

Education: High School diploma or G.E.D. required

License & Certification:

  • CMS-approved state or national certification required
