Job Responsibilities
- Provide safe and effective dialysis therapy for patients under the supervision of a licensed nurse.
- Set up and operate hemodialysis machines.
- Assist in maintaining a safe and clean working environment.
- Participate in process improvement activities related to patient satisfaction.
- Assist other healthcare members in providing patient-specific education regarding dialysis adequacy measures.
- Welcome assigned patients and assess their well-being since the last treatment.
- Evaluate vascular access for patency and perform cannulation.
- Administer heparin as delegated.
- Obtain pre and post-treatment vital signs and weights.
- Initiate dialysis treatment based on prescribed orders.
- Monitor patients' responses and provide necessary interventions during treatment.
- Document treatment processes accurately on the Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet.
- Report significant changes in patient conditions to the registered nurse or supervisor.
- Conduct machine safety checks according to facility policy.
- Collect and prepare lab specimens according to required specifications.
- Assist in training of applicable direct patient care staff.
- Maintain cleanliness of treatment areas and equipment.
- Participate in infection control audits and reinforce adherence to protocols.
- Follow newly admitted patients through their first 4 weeks of dialysis.
- Assist in coordinating patients' transition to their chosen modality and help with supply inventory.
Required Skills

- Compliance with infection control policies
Preferred Skills
- Previous experience in a hospital setting
- Previous patient care experience in a related facility
- Certification in CPR
Requirements
Experience: Previous patient care experience preferred.
Education: High School diploma or G.E.D. required.
License & Certification:
- State licensure as required
- CMS-approved certification within required timeline
