Job Responsibilities

  • Function as part of the dialysis healthcare team in providing safe and effective dialysis therapy for patients under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse.
  • Responsible for the setup and operation of hemodialysis machines.
  • Assist in the maintenance of a safe and clean working environment.
  • Support the organization's commitment to the Quality Enhancement Program (QEP) and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities.
  • Provide patient-specific education regarding adequacy measures and disease processes.
  • Welcome assigned patients and inquire about their wellbeing since their last treatment.
  • Evaluate vascular access for patency and perform vascular access cannulation.
  • Obtain necessary pre and post treatment vital signs and weight.
  • Initiate dialysis treatment according to prescribed orders.
  • Monitor patients’ response to dialysis therapy and perform relevant functions necessary for the discontinuation of treatment.
  • Document accurate and timely information regarding vital signs and treatment parameters.
  • Evaluate patients’ vascular access during treatment including monitoring pressures.
  • Obtain prescribed laboratory testing and prepare specimens for collection.
  • Assist in training of applicable direct patient care staff under the supervision of a nurse.
  • Follow all organization business policies, procedures, and systems incorporated into training.
  • Complete and document ongoing participation in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities.
  • Collect, label, and prepare lab samples according to required specifications.
  • Assist in collecting information for infection control audits and support adherence to infection control practices.
  • Coordinate transitional dialysis care for newly admitted patients.

Required Skills

Core Skills

  • Patient care experience in a hospital or related facility.
  • Understanding of dialysis processes and treatment options.
  • Ability to perform vascular access cannulation.

Preferred Skills

  • Previous experience in a dialysis setting.
  • Successful completion of CPR certification.
  • Commitment to organization culture and values.

Requirements

Experience: Previous patient care experience in a hospital setting or related facility preferred.

Education: High School diploma or G.E.D. required.

License & Certification:

  • State licensure as required.
  • Meet Center for Medicaid/Medicare Services (CMS)-approved state and/or national certification requirements.
