Job Responsibilities
- Assists in direct patient care by providing basic physical care to promote patient comfort as directed by the Registered Nurse.
- Assists patients with activities of daily living including making all assigned beds.
- Safely transports patients according to WVUH’s Safe Patient Handling Policy.
- Transports specimens and items throughout the facility.
- Performs assigned tests such as glucose monitoring, urine and stool testing according to department policy.
- Performs routine phlebotomy services, excluding line draws, in departments as determined by management.
- Obtains and records assigned patient vital signs and other relevant measurements according to departmental policy.
- Provides respiratory support by setting up equipment for oxygen administration.
- Encourages the usage of Incentive Spirometer as per Respiratory Care procedure.
- Observes and reports patient concerns or changes in condition to a registered nurse immediately.
- Prepares patients for examinations and diagnostic procedures according to departmental procedure.
- Assists physicians and registered nurses with examinations and procedures.
- Assists with basic rehabilitation and Physical Therapy activities.
- Communicates with RN regarding nutrition issues.
- Provides total care within scope of practice when assigned sitter or constant visual responsibilities.
- Maintains a clean and safe environment to help prevent/control infections and ensure safety.
- Maintains clean assigned equipment according to departmental procedures.
- Reports necessary equipment repairs to appropriate personnel in a timely manner.
- Assists in routine unit operations as directed to ensure smooth communication and functioning of the unit.
- Courteously answers telephone and relays messages to appropriate personnel.
- Removes out of date items.

- Demonstrates competency in the use of Safe Patient Handling equipment.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Strong customer service orientation.
- Good time management skills.
Preferred Skills
- Prior patient care experience.
Requirements
Experience: Preferred prior patient care experience.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
License & Certification:
- Certification in Basic Life Support or HeartSaver First Aid within 30 days of hire date.
Schedule:
- 0.9 FTE Full-Time, Day Shift, 3-12s, 36 Scheduled Weekly Hours
