Job Responsibilities

  • Manage comprehensive and individualized care for patients and their families in the inpatient phase of hospitalization.
  • Complete daily rounds; consult and pre-procedure evaluations and integrated assessments.
  • Order additional tests or consults as deemed appropriate in collaboration with neonatal faculty.
  • Perform and communicate results of diagnostic tests following established clinical guidelines.
  • Consult and communicate with hospital staff regarding abnormal findings in patient evaluations.
  • Complete succinct comprehensive clinical evaluations and document findings in the medical record.
  • Facilitate patient discharge and coordinate necessary follow-up services.
  • Develop and individualize comprehensive plan of care for neonatal patients.
  • Participate on physician and interdisciplinary team rounds as applicable.
  • Care for neonates as part of flight or ground transport teams.
  • Identify unstable or complex neonatal patient care situations and facilitate appropriate interventions.
  • Initiate effective emergency care in emergency situations.
  • Evaluate neonatal patients and coordinate the education of medical/nursing students.
  • Assist in the collection of outcome measures as applicable.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking and diagnostic reasoning in clinical decision-making.
  • Utilize teaching strategies in the provision of education to nursing staff and the community.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of patient/family teaching and collaborate with clinical staff.
  • Act as a resource for staff and student learners caring for neonatal patients.
  • Provide educational programs to personnel in the area of expertise.
  • Mentor nursing personnel and learners in clinical practice.
  • Participate in community programs and distribute literature as needed.
  • Document the plan of care and interventions in the medical record following compliance standards.
  • Collaborate with leaders and staff to achieve patient outcome-based improvements.
  • Provide leadership in the development of changes in neonatal practice.
  • Participate and initiate interdisciplinary approaches to patient care.
  • Document hours and submit billing reports as appropriate.
  • Participate in the Performance Improvement Plan and activities.
  • Review and interpret neonatal data to recommend and implement necessary changes.
  • Participate in clinical trials and research studies.
  • Adhere to established Performance Expectations for UHA Employees.

Required Skills

Preferred Skills

  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
  • NNP or ACPNP certification

Requirements

Experience: Neonatal ICU, acute care or pediatric experience preferred; eligible new graduates considered.

Education: Graduate of a CCNE accredited nursing program with Master’s Degree in Nursing (or MEC approved equivalent) or Bachelor's/Master's degree as Physician Assistant.

License & Certification:

  • National Certification by recognized APRN Certification Centers
  • Licensure or eligibility for licensure as a professional Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in West Virginia
  • American Heart Association Neonatal BLS Certification required

  • Full-time work, requires flexibility for varied shifts
