Job Responsibilities

Function as part of the dialysis healthcare team in providing safe and effective dialysis therapy under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse.
Responsible for the setup and operation of hemodialysis machines.
Assist in maintaining a safe and clean working environment.
Support the organization's commitment to the Quality Enhancement Program (QEP) and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities.
Assist in providing patient-specific education regarding adequacy measures and disease processes.
Welcome assigned patients and inquire about their wellbeing since their last treatment.
Evaluate vascular access for patency, perform vascular access cannulation, and administer heparin as delegated.
Obtain necessary pre- and post-treatment vital signs and weight.
Initiate dialysis treatment according to prescribed orders, and monitor patients' response.
Document treatment parameters and report significant changes to the registered nurse.
Conduct machine safety checks and report findings according to facility policy.
Assist in training of applicable direct patient care staff under supervision of a nurse.
Maintain environmental integrity by ensuring all areas are safe and clean.
Assist with infection control audits and reinforce infection control education for patients.
Follow all newly admitted patients through their first 4 weeks of dialysis and assist with their transitional care.
Coordinate with staff to provide the best patient experience during the transition to the patient's modality choice.

Required Skills

Core Skills

Knowledge of dialysis procedures and patient care
Ability to perform vital sign measurements and documentation
Competency in vascular access and cannulation
Strong communication skills
Ability to work in a team environment

Preferred Skills

Previous patient care experience in a hospital setting
Certification in CPR
Ability to train others

Requirements

Experience: Previous patient care experience in a hospital setting preferred.

Education: High School diploma or G.E.D. required.

License & Certification:

Must meet CMS-approved state and/or national certification requirements.
