Job Responsibilities
- Conduct basic screening assessments and provide healthcare services to individuals detained by Customs and Border Protection (CBP)
- Work administratively under the supervision of the Regional Program Manager and Regional Deputy Program Manager
- Provide healthcare services under medical direction of the National Medical Director and Physician Supervisors
- Provide direct care to patients of all ages, including infants, children, and pregnant women
- Consult with Supervising Physician or Pediatric Advisor for complex patients
- Perform history and physical assessments, and patient education
- Conduct vital signs electronically and manually
- Maintain compliance with DHS and CBP policies and applicable accreditation standards
- Participate in disease surveillance activities and public health studies as needed
- Attend all general staff meetings during duty hours
- Maintain patient confidentiality and privacy of medical records according to HIPAA
- Provide emergency care until Emergency Medical Services arrive
- Assist in the disposal of biologically hazardous waste
- Complete all annual training and additional assignments as needed
Required Skills
Core Skills
- Current active license/registration/certification to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in Texas
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Knowledge of drugs and therapeutics for prescribing and dispensing medication
- Ability to perform clinical procedures, infection control, and quality assurance
- Ability to work in a stressful environment
- Experience in direct patient care
Preferred Skills
- Experience in detention/correctional or pediatric setting
- Bilingual in English and Spanish
Requirements
Experience: Minimum of one year in direct patient care
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and completion of a US-based accredited Nurse Practitioner training program
License & Certification:
- Nurse Practitioner state license
- BLS certification
- Board Certification by an accredited body
Schedule:
- Day, night, weekday, weekend, and holiday shifts
