Job Responsibilities
- Provide direct care to inmates in the correctional institution
- Provide emergency care to staff while observing and maintaining the requirements of security
- Diagnose and treat inmates within the scope of practice
- Perform routine history and physical examinations as applicable
- Order and, if necessary, perform laboratory studies, X-rays, examinations, and electrocardiograms
- Initiate consultation requests and non-formulary requests with supervisory physician’s approval
- Educate inmates relative to medical conditions, use of drugs, diet, weight control, effects of prescribed treatment
- Document all patient contacts in the medical record using Problem Oriented Medical Record format and SOAP charting
- Maintain confidentiality of medical records
- Order medications while adhering to the established formulary
- Participate in data collection for the CQI program and participate in the CQI committee as needed
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as requested by the supervisor
Required Skills
Core Skills
- Graduate of an accredited program
- Current license to practice in the state where the facility is located
- Competent to perform responsibilities as defined by the state’s practice act
- Current CPR certificate
Preferred Skills
- Certification or eligibility for certification in the scope of practice
- Experience in healthcare
- Proficiency in English
