Job Responsibilities

Provides competent, evidence-based care on the Inpatient Mental Health and/or MHRRTP or as assigned.
Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates care based on cultural characteristics, age, state of health, race, culture, values, and previous experiences.
Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to influence patient care.
Utilizes best practice in assessing and managing Veterans at risk for suicide.
Adheres to best practice when administering medication per established policies and guidelines.
Evaluates psychosocial functioning.
Maintains professional boundaries to protect patient vulnerabilities.
Participates in MH interdisciplinary treatment team and psychiatric emergencies.
Reports safety concerns and documents nursing assessments, nursing plan of care, and patient safety observations according to facility policy.
Facilitates shift reports, warm hand-offs, and nurse-led psychoeducational groups.
Uses therapeutic communication and de-escalation techniques while employing recovery-oriented language.

Requirements

Experience: 2-3 years of recent mental health experience; 1 year of acute care experience preferred.

Education: Graduate of a recognized school of professional nursing with a current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse.

License & Certification:

1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory
