Job Responsibilities
- Contribute to safe and effective nursing care in the operating room under the direction of a Registered Nurse.
- Assist with direct patient care and observation.
- Scrub and assist the surgeon at the operative field.
- Manage surgical room turnover between cases.
- Collect and record pertinent clinical data in the medical record.
- Collaborate with the Registered Nurse in clinical decision making.
- Demonstrate necessary practical, technical, or specialized skills as required for the role.
- Prepare the operative suite for surgery by checking and gathering supplies, equipment, and instruments.
- Ensure maintenance of surgical asepsis in handling instruments, sponges, sutures, drains, needles, and dressings.
- Assist in cleaning and preparing the operating room between cases.
- Prepare the procedure room for use the following day by setting up equipment and reporting needed items to supervisors.
Required Skills
Core Skills
- Surgical Technologist skills as per Association of Surgical Technologists
- Knowledge of asepsis techniques
- Ability to assist surgeons during operations
Preferred Skills
- Surgical Tech Certification
- Experience in an ambulatory surgery center
- BCLS Certification
Requirements
Experience: One year experience in an operating room setting
Education: Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program
License & Certification:
- Surgical Tech Certification
- Valid BCLS Certification
