Job Title: Patient Care Tech-Northwestern Memorial Hospital 12-hour shifts

Position: Inpatient PCT

Job Type: Part Time / Full Time

Pay: $22.76 - $22.76 (Hourly Rate)

Shift: Days Shifts - 0700-1930, Nights shifts - 1900-0730

Job Responsibilities

  • Assist with admission, transfer, and discharge process.
  • Take and record temperature, pulse, respirations, weight for adults and/or neonates, height, and blood pressure.
  • Measure and record intake and output including output from drains.
  • Apply cardiac monitor/oximetry.
  • Obtain EKG.
  • Adhere to the infant security protocol (accurate assessment of band placement).
  • Perform normal newborn hearing screening.
  • Obtain capillary blood glucose for adults and/or neonates.
  • Perform phlebotomy.
  • Apply Fetal Monitor equipment on pregnant patients.
  • Discontinue heplocks and foley catheters.
  • Administer enemas.
  • Collect specimens (urine, stool, blood and sputum) on adults and/or neonates.
  • Make rounds of patients and anticipate their needs and observe newborns in the nursery.
  • Respond to patient call lights in a timely manner, especially emergency lights.
  • Distribute fresh drinking water and nourishments to patients.
  • Prepare patients for meals; assist or feed patients as necessary.
  • Provide morning care, bed baths and evening care according to established Nursing Care Procedures.
  • Provide peri-care to appropriate patients.
  • Provide newborn care to the infant including bath, dressing, obtaining foot prints, assistance with feeding (bottle and breast), glucose checks.
  • Make occupied and unoccupied beds.
  • Ambulate patients and instruct on walker, cane and crutch walking as appropriate for assigned unit.
  • Assist with pre-and post-operative care; position patients as ordered; apply special equipment for safety.
  • Apply comfort and safety measures (side rails and call lights).
  • Set up oxygen and suction equipment and other respiratory equipment for adults and/or neonates.
  • Apply dressings to Stage I and Stage II skin breakdown.
  • Prepare patient room for MD or RN assessment, evaluation, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
  • Assist with procedures in the normal newborn nursery as directed.
  • Transport patients, equipment and/or supplies during urgent and emergent situations and to front door on discharge.
  • Respond to emergency situations, secure assistance and initiate basic life support.
  • Report observations and document appropriately.
  • Promptly notify RN of any change in patient condition.
  • Perform post-mortem care and transport bodies to the morgue when necessary.
  • Assume responsibility for the care of patient’s prosthetic devices, hearing aides, dentures, eye glasses, etc.
  • Follow established policies, procedures and standards of care in all areas of practice.

Required Skills

Core Skills

  • CNA Certification or currently enrolled in SON with successful completion of basic clinical rotations
  • CPR recognition by the American Heart Association (BLS for Healthcare Providers)
  • Ability to physically lift/carry up to 50 pounds

Preferred Skills

  • One year of college or nursing education or equivalent experience
  • Previous experience in a health care setting

  • CNA Certification

Schedule:

  • Part-time - Two 12-hour shifts per week, with rotating weekends
  • Full-time - Three 12-hour shifts per week, with rotating weekends
