Job Responsibilities
- Administers and documents medications and treatments within the electronic health record system MAR as prescribed by physicians.
- Makes order entries in Avatar under supervision of the Registered Nurse where needed.
- Maintains current information on new medications, dosages, and side effects.
- Reinforces medication teaching with client/family as needed and as directed by the Registered Nurse.
- Provides nursing support to meet the physical, emotional, and psycho-social needs of clients presenting to the clinic.
- Participates in the processing and ordering of client medication needs consistent with doctor's prescriptive direction.
- Implements provisions of client care plan with respect to clients' medication needs driven by doctor's prescriptive direction/orders.
- Observes and documents changes in client behavior/condition and informs RN/supervisor accordingly.
- Participates in emergency or crisis situations as directed by the Registered Nurse.
- Assists with meeting service needs of clients enrolled in clinic services and related documentation completion.
- Maintains records, reports, and documentation in accordance with departmental standards.
- Maintains a clean, comfortable, and safe environment for clients and peers.
- Assists in creating a therapeutic atmosphere within the nursing office area.
- Maintains effective working relationships with other employees.
- Attends and participates in staff meetings, in-services, and other educational programs.
Required Skills
Core Skills
- Knowledge of nursing terminology, techniques, and practices
- Understanding of the basic needs of geriatric elderly, developmentally disabled, mentally ill, AODA clients, and child/adolescent clients
- Knowledge of basic pharmacology, especially psychopharmacology
- Ability to recognize and address physical, psycho-social, mental, and emotional needs of clients
- Ability to establish and maintain therapeutic relationships with clients and family members
- Ability to document accurately and maintain confidentiality
- Ability to use standard medical equipment
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
Preferred Skills
- Experience in outpatient clinic settings
- Familiarity with electronic health records
- Ability to perform in emergency situations as directed by the Registered Nurse
