Job Responsibilities
- Provides nursing care to patients, including medications and treatment.
- Plans, implements, and evaluates patient care.
- Accompanies, assists, and represents the needs of patients to other providers.
- Accurately provides care with respect to medication administration, skin and wound care, ADLs, and other essential patient care activities.
- Develops, implements, evaluates, and modifies the nursing care plan; prepares required records and reports.
- Gathers and assesses information about patients to meet nursing needs; assists and consults with physicians in procedures and diagnostic tests.
- Contracts with physicians and/or other departments to obtain or provide patient information.
- Provides oversight to staff who monitor telemetry systems; alerts primary nurse of changes in underlying rhythms.
- Interprets and posts telemetry strips at specified hours; admits and discharges patients with telemetry units as appropriate.
- Organizes, supervises, and accepts responsibility for the quality of care provided by co-workers.
- Participates in promoting a healthful, safe, and therapeutic environment for patients and families.
- Participates in the implementation of patient care standards, infection control standards, and quality assurance criteria.
- Monitors patients for significant changes and initiates procedures as required.
- Documents care given according to set standards and requirements.
- Interprets and explains procedures and regimens to patients and families.
- Teaches patients and family members healthcare and disease prevention techniques.
- Prepares patients and/or area for procedures and operations; assists physicians.

Requirements
Experience: Six months experience as a Clinical Nurse I with AHS or one year full-time recent experience at a comparable level in a minimum 100-bed hospital.
Education: Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program required; Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred.
License & Certification:
- Valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in California
- BLS - Basic Life Support Certification
- ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification
- Chemotherapy certification within one year of hire (certain positions only)
- ONS certification within one year of hire (for inpatient med tele/oncology department)
- CEN - Certified Emergency Nurse (desirable for Emergency Department positions)
- Public Health Nurse certification in California (for certain positions)
- Perinatal Safety Modules completion within 3 months of hire (for certain positions)
- Coronary Care Unit certification (for certain positions)
- TEAM Training (for all positions at John George Psychiatric Pavilion; required for certain positions in Emergency Department)
- NRP - Neonatal Resuscitation Program Certification (as required per unit/department specialty)
- PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support Certification (required for Emergency Department or pediatric care)
