Job Responsibilities
- Provide basic nursing care to non-acutely ill patients within the Nursing Assistant's scope of practice that includes meeting psychosocial and physical needs.
- Meet communication needs of patients.
- Demonstrate initiative and responsibility expected of a Nursing Assistant.
- Perform other duties as assigned within the Nursing Assistant's scope of practice.
- Assist in admission, transfer, and discharge of patients.
- Notify appropriate licensed personnel when patients complain of pain.
- Communicate observed changes in patient status and responses to the RN.
- Assist with feeding patients and maintaining fluid balance with appropriate techniques.
- Provide explanations to patients and families prior to administering care, and answer questions within scope of practice.
- Perform treatments and provide services within scope of practice.
- Communicate appropriately and clearly to team leader, co-workers, and physicians.
- Consult other departments as appropriate for an interdisciplinary approach to patient needs.
- Provide care appropriate to the condition and age of the patient, including pediatric, geriatric, and general populations.
- Perform all aspects of patient care in a safe environment to reduce medical/health care errors.
- Assist physicians with procedures and perform services requiring technical and manual skills under RN supervision.
- Be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.
- Respond to patients in emergency or physically distressful situations.
- Treat patients and families with respect and dignity.
- Interact professionally with patients/families and involve them in the care plan.
- Maintain good working relationships within and outside the department.
- Meet current documentation standards and policies.
- Manage and operate equipment safely and correctly.
- Coordinate and supervise patient care under the direct supervision of an RN.
- Demonstrate knowledge of disease entities.
- Carry out medical and surgical asepsis during treatments and special procedures.
Required Skills
Core Skills
- High school diploma or GED
- Current AHA BLS certification
- Ability to read and communicate effectively in English
