Job Responsibilities

Provide supervisory coverage to the nursing unit and other patient care areas
Develop nursing staff, including education, competency, performance evaluation, and resolution of issues related to patient safety and customer service
Manage personnel to ensure availability of an appropriately credentialed and clinically competent workforce
Advise the Director/Manager on the hiring, retention, interviewing, and recruitment of staff
Serve as a staff role model by promoting cooperative problem solving and team building
Perform ongoing written goal setting, peer review, and performance reviews according to hospital policy
Provide ongoing feedback to employees regarding job performance
Coach and counsel employees under the direction of the Director/Manager
Make appropriate clinical decisions regarding patient care based on available data
Assist staff in resolving problems affecting patient care during off-shifts
Assess immediate staffing needs in consultation with charge nurses and/or House Supervisor
Engage in fiscal activities to ensure timely availability of supplies and human resources
Maintain effective communication with medical staff, patients, and other departments
Assess patient/family satisfaction issues and take appropriate actions to resolve them
Support and assist with service recovery initiatives
Ensure adherence to standards and policies set forth by WVUH and accrediting bodies
Assist the Director/Manager in timely follow-up of incident/event manager reports
Facilitate the professional development of personnel in conjunction with the Clinical Preceptor
Oversee and participate in the orientation, training, and continuing education of staff
Direct and monitor the instruction, supervision, and evaluation of students and orientees
Encourage continuous personal and professional growth of staff through various development activities
Participate in outreach activities to educate and promote good relationships in the community

Preferred Skills

Two years of nursing experience
Certification in Basic Life Support

Requirements

Experience: Preferred: Two years of nursing experience

Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) within 2 years of hire

License & Certification:

Current unencumbered licensure with the WV Board of Registered Professional Nurses or appropriate state board
Current multi-state licensure through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC)
Certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire
