Job Responsibilities
- Assist in ensuring 24-hour coverage nursing services of Mental Health Unit and appropriate provision of clinical treatment.
- Coordinates Mental Health Unit sick call to ensure nurse triage and appropriate referral for physician follow-up.
- Implement psychiatric and physician orders in a timely, clinically effective manner.
- Administer and monitor medications in accordance with the policies and procedures of the Mental Health Unit.
- Conduct Initial Nursing Assessment upon admission to the Mental Health Unit or as soon as the inmate's condition permits.
- Document changes in inmate's functioning and critical incidents in the Medical Record.
- Complete Nursing Discharge Summary when inmate is transferred from the Mental Health Unit.
- Assist in coordination of psychiatric services to ensure psychiatrist is informed of psychotropic medication compliance, changes in inmate functioning, and results of laboratory testing in a timely manner.
- Provide group counseling and activities for inmates to ensure Level II inmates receive two (2) hours of out-of-cell time daily.
- Maintain and update Medication Administration Records (MARS).
- Abide by security regulations and confidentiality of inmate information requirements of the facility.
- Monitor medical supplies to facilitate appropriate inventory and ordering.
- Interrelate and work effectively with Health Services staff, prison staff, and CMS administrative staff.
- Comply with employee standards of CMS and applicable employee standards of the facility.
Required Skills
Core Skills
- Registered Nurse License in good standing
- Experience with mentally ill and/or correctional populations
- CPR certification
- Ability to follow technical instructions and health services bulletins
