Job Responsibilities
- Responsible for the planning and delivery of nursing care utilizing nursing processes: assessment, implementation, and evaluation.
- Oversees the plan of care and utilizes effective problem-solving strategies.
- Supports and upholds quality standards of a Magnet designated hospital and the Patient Bill of Rights.
- Completes all nursing multi-system assessments including head to toe, vitals, pain management, falls risk assessment, post-anesthetic scores, and airway management.
- Ensures completion of patient pre-admission/admission history and discharge planning process accurately as per department and hospital policies.
- Communicates and documents the patient’s progress, critical findings, and changes in condition with involved disciplines.
- Implements and documents the plan of care in collaboration with other disciplines.
- Provides nursing care that includes IV site monitoring, specimen collection, and assisting the surgical team.
- Follows physician’s orders, administers and reconstitutes medications as needed.
- Ensures proper and safe sedation administration to patients and monitors recovery as per PACU Policy and Procedure.
- Cross trained to provide safe patient care in Pre-Op, Intra-Op, PACU 1, and PACU 2.
- Leads turnover between cases with Care Assistants to provide a safe and clean environment of care.
- Ensures advanced directives, secures blood consents, documents time-out procedures, and ensures correct site/side is marked.
- Greets family and patients, transports patients into OR and acts as a liaison to update family with procedure progress.
- Transports patients to recovery room and completes the SOAR checklist with hand-off to the PACU RN.
- Accesses electronic health record independently according to hospital policy and completes accurate documentation.
- Educates patients and families about medical procedures, diagnoses, and discharge instructions.
- Communicates and documents critical lab results per hospital policy.
- Promotes an “error free” working environment by consistently providing high-quality safe care.
- Acts on falls risk assessments and proper PPE indication and use.
- Accountable to ensure the proper steps are followed in processing Gastro Intestinal scopes per departmental policy.
- Meets unit standards in achieving CEI standards and completing documentation in a timely manner.
- Promotes safety by actively practicing time-out and documenting all implants and blood transfusion products.
Required Skills
Core Skills
- RN Licensure within the State of Florida or Multi-State Enhanced Nursing License Compact (eNLC)
- American Heart Association BLS certification
- American Heart Association PALS certification
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to analyze and interpret data for patient care
Preferred Skills
- BSN degree or enrolled in BSN program (proof required within 6 months of hire)
- Minimum of 1 year experience as an RN
- Career Development: National Certified Pediatric Nurse (CPN) and/or equivalent certification within 5 years of hire
- Proficiency in computers and EMR
- Ability to positively influence and hold self and others accountable
- Ability to float within Surgical Services
