Job Responsibilities
- Assist in providing safe and effective dialysis therapy under direct supervision of a licensed nurse.
- Setup and operate hemodialysis machines.
- Assist in maintaining a safe and clean working environment.
- Provide patient specific detailed education regarding adequacy measures.
- Welcome assigned patients and inquire about their wellbeing since last treatment.
- Evaluate vascular access for patency and perform cannulation.
- Obtain necessary pre and post treatment vital signs and weight.
- Initiate dialysis treatment according to prescribed orders and monitor patients' response to therapy.
- Discontinue dialysis treatment according to established procedures.
- Document all relevant information regarding treatment on the Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet.
- Conduct machine safety checks and report any unusual findings.
- Collect all prescribed laboratory testing and prepare specimens for collection.
- Participate in the training of applicable direct patient care staff.
- Maintain environmental integrity and aesthetics.
- Assist in collecting information for infection control audits.
- Follow newly admitted patients through their first 4 weeks of dialysis.
- Coordinate patient’s transitional dialysis care and education.
Required Skills
Core Skills
- Patient care experience in a hospital setting or a related facility.
- Ability to perform vascular access and monitor patients during dialysis.
- Knowledge of dialysis treatment processes and emergency protocols.
Preferred Skills
- Previous experience as a dialysis technician.
- CPR certification.
- Commitment to customer service standards.
Requirements
Experience: Previous patient care experience preferred.
Education: High School diploma or G.E.D. required.
License & Certification:
- Must meet CMS-approved state/national certification requirements.
