Job Responsibilities

  • Provides care to residents in accordance with the care plan as directed by physician’s orders and in accordance with laws, regulations, and facility guidelines.
  • Monitors facility clinical systems to effectively facilitate quality resident care.
  • Successfully delivers basic nursing care to residents in accordance with care plans as ordered by a physician.
  • Directs and develops RNs, LPNs, and CNAs working on the unit to ensure the delivery of high-quality care.
  • Conducts ongoing assessments of residents to identify care needs and makes revisions to the care plan based on changes in resident condition.
  • Works in conjunction with the ADON and DON to provide resolution of grievances or concerns related to resident care.
  • Documents interventions and resident or family education efforts timely and accurately.
  • Conducts rounds within the nursing department to assess resident conditions and clinical practices.
  • Accurately documents nursing care notes in resident charts in a timely manner.
  • Performs medication administration and IV duties in accordance with the care plan.
  • Monitors progress of residents and suggests treatment plans to meet care needs.
  • Observes resident behavior and reports findings to nursing supervisors.
  • Completes resident incident reports upon identifying changes in resident condition.
  • Monitors residents’ skin to identify the risk of pressure sores.
  • Responsible for a variety of nursing administrative duties.
  • Places medication and refill orders with resident pharmacies as needed.
  • Takes inventory of narcotics and monitors emergency kits.
  • Monitors the emotional and physical conditions of residents.
  • Performs shift change reports with previous shift nurses.
  • Understands and follows proper procedures for admission, transfer, and discharge of residents.
  • May assist in the recruitment, selection, and orientation of qualified team members.
  • Provides expectations and monitors performance of nursing staff.
  • Delegates assignments and provides overall supervision to nursing staff.
  • Effectively communicates guidelines and procedures to nursing staff, residents, families, and physicians.
  • Provides overall supervision for timely responses to call lights.
  • Assists in providing on-the-job training for new nursing staff.
  • Promotes a team environment through effective communication with nursing staff.
  • Monitors schedule adherence of staff for shifts and breaks.
  • Monitors job performance of nursing staff and provides corrective action as needed.

Requirements

Experience: 1 to 3 years nursing supervisor experience in long-term care or healthcare setting

Education: RN degree from an accredited college or nursing school; current RN licensure within the state of practice; CPR certification required
