Job Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe and hazard free environment by observing and documenting patient behavior.
  • Conduct patient room searches, report unsafe conditions, and apply appropriate emotional and physical support.
  • Perform or assist with the admission of new patients by gathering routine information for nursing assessment.
  • Search patients and belongings for contraband and document belongings and other appropriate information.
  • Orient the patient and patient's family to the facility and the policies and procedures.
  • Escort patients to off-unit appointments and activities using therapeutic interventions.
  • Assist with providing a therapeutic milieu for patients by encouraging participation in recreational activities and group therapies.
  • Lead activity and conversation groups for supportive therapy for select patients.
  • Assist in the development of patient behavioral expectations.
  • Serve as a preceptor to new Psychiatric Technicians.
  • Assist with unit training and quality assurance programs.
  • Order, stock, and maintain clerical and patient supplies.
  • Provide annual educational in-service to co-workers.
  • Function as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team.
  • Contribute to patient treatment planning, teaching, and discharge planning.
  • Participate in patient care team conferences by sharing observations of patient's progress.

  • Ability to recognize adverse reactions to medications.
  • Ability to assess patients for self-harm and report findings.
  • Interpersonal skills to build trust with patients.
  • Communication skills for effective crisis response.
  • Knowledge of group dynamics to foster social and communication skills.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in psychiatric settings.
  • Multi-lingual capabilities.

Requirements

Experience: Six months of behavioral health or direct patient care experience.

Education:

License & Certification:

  • Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health.
