Job Responsibilities

Assist other healthcare members in providing patient specific detailed education regarding adequacy measures.
Welcome assigned patients and inquire about their wellbeing since the last treatment.
Evaluate vascular access for patency, perform vascular access cannulation, and administer heparin as delegated or allowed by state law.
Obtain necessary pre and post treatment vital signs and weight.
Initiate dialysis treatment according to prescribed orders, including blood flow and dialysate flow.
Monitor patients’ response to dialysis therapy and document vital signs prior to reinfusion.
Discontinue dialysis treatment according to established procedures and evaluate patient prior to termination of venous access.
Obtain Hemostasis and apply appropriate dressings.
Evaluate patients’ vascular access during treatment and provide documentation.
Obtain all prescribed laboratory testing and prepare specimens for collection.
Maintain a safe and clean working environment by cleaning and disinfecting dialysis machines and surrounding areas.
Participate in the recruitment and orientation of new clinical staff.
Function as a preceptor in direct patient care training.
Assist in training of applicable direct patient care staff under the supervision of a nurse.
Ensure communication regarding training and organization development programs.
Monitor processes in the delivery of patient care through Continuous Quality Improvement activities.
Assist with facility QAI infection control audits and education of staff and patients.
Monitor the transitional care unit and assist new patients in understanding dialysis treatment options.
Participate in patient care education and engage with patients and staff for infection control practices.

Required Skills

Core Skills

Experience in patient care in a healthcare setting.
Effective communication skills.
Technical skills related to dialysis equipment operation.

Preferred Skills

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
PCT national certification or state certification.
Experience with Continuous Quality Improvement processes.

Requirements

Experience: At least five years patient care experience in a hospital setting or a related facility preferred.

Education: High School diploma or G.E.D. required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.

License & Certification:

Valid PCT national certification or state specific certification as defined by Center for Medicaid/Medicare (CMS)
All appropriate state licensure, education, and training.
