Job Responsibilities
- Coordinates nursing educational programs and activities for an assigned health care setting.
- Provides continuous education and training to nursing staff.
- Assesses educational needs of staff.
- Participates in planning and conducting nursing staff development programs.
- Plans, organizes, coordinates and evaluates in-service nursing orientation.
- Maintains a system of records of in-service orientation, staff development, and educational activities.
- Monitors and submits all mandatory work and regulatory reports.
- Identifies and collects information related to learning needs.
- Collaborates with members of multiple disciplines in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of effective nursing education and training programs.
- Conducts program evaluations that measure learning impact and outcomes.
- Assesses learners’ progress and interprets necessary information to revise orientation, competencies, lesson plans, and educational activities.
- Contributes to competency assessment by monitoring nursing staff's knowledge and compliance.
- Participates in competency validation of newly appointed staff.
- Maintains professional competence through participation in continuing education programs.
- Serves on nursing and health care setting committees as assigned.
- Develops and directs continuous quality improvement programs.
- Instructs and provides in-service education for new products and changes to nursing procedures.
- Identifies and implements nursing evidence-based methodologies and/or best practices.
- Develops teaching and learning strategies to promote participant engagement.
Required Skills
Core Skills
- Registered Nurse license in New York
- Current BLS certification
- Master’s degree in Nursing or related field
- Experience in nursing education and training
Preferred Skills
- Certification as a Nurse Educator
- Experience in specialty areas (critical care, emergency services, perioperative care)
Requirements
Experience: Three (3) years of experience as a registered nurse including one (1) year providing nursing education and training.
Education: Master’s Degree in Nursing or a related field.
License & Certification:
- Valid New York State license as a Registered Professional Nurse
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
