Job Responsibilities
- Perform remote surveillance for multiple locations specific to cardio-pulmonary rhythms via a central monitoring station.
- Recognize, record and report potentially dangerous rhythm changes and arrhythmias.
- Monitor patientsโ cardiac rhythms and oxygen saturation using appropriate cardiac monitoring equipment.
- Obtain a baseline ECG strip on all monitored patients according to department guidelines.
- Record and post cardiac strips in accordance with established procedures.
- Update and verify patient data in the information system.
- Maintain unit/department specific records as assigned.
- Recognize rhythms that may alter patient physiology and obtain a documentary ECG strip.
- Report all arrhythmias to the responsible RN according to established protocols.
- Maintain current knowledge of technical operations of the central monitoring station.
- Maintain alarm systems according to established protocols and respond appropriately to monitor alarms.
- Identify and troubleshoot routine technical problems with the monitors and send work orders for maintenance.
- Handle incoming and outgoing communications and answer questions per established procedures.
- Provide accurate shift reports to other monitor technicians regarding patient condition and rhythm status.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all parties involved.
- Communicate with bedside staff in a professional and courteous manner.
- Maintain a safe work and patient environment adhering to safety, risk management, and regulatory standards.
- Order, stock and replenish supplies and equipment as necessary.
- Participate in quality assurance/improvement initiatives and activities.
- Adapt to and collaborate with all internal and external patients/clients.
Required Skills
Core Skills
- Knowledge of electrocardiogram monitoring and documenting cardiac rhythms.
- Ability to recognize cardiac rhythms and detect arrhythmias.
- Basic math calculation skills.
- Ability to understand and apply instructions provided by supervisors.
- Ability to troubleshoot routine technical monitor problems.
- Effective communication skills in English.
Preferred Skills
- Basic and/or Advanced EKG Certificate.
- EMT Certificate.
- Cardio-Pulmonary Certificate.
- Graduation from accredited programs such as EKG Interpretation or Health Unit Coordinator.
- Associateโs degree in EKG Technology.
Requirements
Experience: Minimum 2 years of recent electrocardiogram technician experience.
Education:
License & Certification:
- Basic EKG test required within 90 days of hire.
Schedule:
- Ability to travel from one location to another as staffing needs dictate (13 week assignments).
