Job Responsibilities

Assists the physician during surgical procedures by performing scrub duties.
Upholds policies and procedures, principles of responsibilities and applicable laws.
Demonstrates a professional, supportive attitude.
Identifies and supports new ideas.
Utilizes effective communication strategies, including chain of command and issue escalation.
Participates in problem identification and resolution in collaboration with the Registered Nurse.
Prioritizes work assignments appropriately to ensure completion of patient care activities.
Notifies Registered Nurse if unable to complete assignments.
Complies with regulatory requirements, policies, procedures, and standards of practice.
Correctly identifies patient and scheduled procedure.
Performs patient care activities, considering age-related needs of the patient as assigned.
Reports unusual findings to the Registered Nurse.
Collects data and provides information to the registered Nurse to assist with the plan of care.
Discusses discharge barriers with the Registered Nurse and takes intervention as directed.
Applies standard precautions and maintains a safe environment.
Observes patient/family conditions and reports sudden changes or unusual findings.
Demonstrates competencies during the probationary period and ongoing by completing departmental competency validation.
Transports patients, equipment, supplies, and specimens throughout the medical center.
Participates in departmental performance improvement activities.
Assembles and ensures all equipment, supplies, and instruments are available and sterilized.
Sets up and organizes room for upcoming procedures.
Performs scrub role, including anticipating surgeons' needs and managing instruments.
Assists with transfer, transport, and stabilization of patient as needed.
Cleans instruments, containers, and equipment according to guidelines.
Operates sterilization equipment and reports defective equipment.
Utilizes computer systems effectively and efficiently.
Practices customer service standards and anticipates customer needs.
Maintains and protects patient confidentiality.
Assures a clean, orderly, and functional work environment.
Acts as an effective team member and assists others when needed.
Attends mandatory meetings and participates in departmental professional development.
Reports to assigned area promptly and minimizes personal phone call time.
Supports a collaborative labor-management partnership environment.
Organizes work to minimize the use of overtime.

Required Skills

Core Skills

Experience in operating room scrubbing or equivalent military experience.
Certified Surgical Technologist Certificate from National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting.
Basic Life Support certification.
Possesses full command of the English language (written and verbal).

Requirements

Experience: Two (2) years within the last three years operating room scrubbing or equivalent military experience.

Education: Graduate of approved surgical technologist or military equivalent program.

License & Certification:

Surgical Technologist Certificate from National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting
National Center for Competency Testing Certificate - Technologist in Surgery
