Job Responsibilities

  • Performs assessment/data collection systematically, focusing on physiological, psychosocial, cultural, spiritual, cognitive status, nutrition, pain, patient/family education, family involvement, and patient advocacy.
  • Formulates a goal-directed plan of care when and where appropriate.
  • Implements care thoroughly, skillfully, consistently, and continuously.
  • Establishes patient care priorities based on patient needs and available resources.
  • Identifies patient/family learning needs and acts to meet them.
  • Demonstrates awareness and sensitivity to patient/family rights and age-specific needs.
  • Provides and coordinates care for patients/patient populations.
  • Establishes effective working relationships with healthcare team members, patients, and families.
  • Acknowledges staff rights and cultural and ethical beliefs.
  • Delegates appropriately and coordinates duties of healthcare team members.
  • Evaluates effectiveness of care given by healthcare team members.

  • Provides data for staffing decisions and displays flexibility in staffing issues.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in computer use for documentation and information tracking.
  • Documents patient care and unit activities in a timely, accurate, and concise manner.
  • May train in specialty areas listed; candidates in training must certify within 6 months.

Required Skills

Core Skills

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the RN scope of practice
  • Effective written and oral communication skills in English
  • Good interpersonal skills

Preferred Skills

  • Training in chemotherapy, neurosurgery, telemetry, or other specialties.
  • Basic Arrhythmia recognition skills.

Requirements

Experience: Six months recent experience in an acute care setting or completion of orientation in the KP New Graduate/Residency Training Program.

Education: High School Diploma/GED; Graduate of an accredited registered nursing program.

License & Certification:

  • Registered Nurse License (California)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support within 6 months of hire
  • Basic Life Support
