Job Responsibilities
- Organizes time, equipment, supplies, and personnel to provide effective and efficient case management.
- Assists surgeon by passing instruments and other equipment while being scrubbed in.
- Considers cost containment by using supplies economically and in effective turnover time.
- Prepares the operating room according to requirements of patient/procedure to be performed.
- Implements plan of care safely and effectively and provides safe environment.
- Positions patient safely and ensures respiratory and circulatory protection.
- Ensures correct prepping and draping procedures and asepsis during all procedures.
- Opens and presents sterile items to sterile field aseptically and ensures supplies are not expired.
- Accounts for all sponges, needles, and sharps during and after the procedures and documents appropriately.
- Promotes positive communication with all team members.
- Anticipates needs of surgical team and assists anesthesia personnel by supporting patient during administration of anesthesia.
- Maintains current knowledge, certification, and licensure.
- Pursues growth and development.
- Functions as a role model for current and new staff.
- Demonstrates a professional manner.
- Follows center exposure control plans for blood borne and airborne pathogens.
- Assumes other duties as assigned.
Required Skills
Core Skills
- Current (state) license as a Registered Nurse
- BLS and ACLS certification
- Ophthalmology experience
Preferred Skills
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals and professional journals
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals
- Specialized computer skills, adept at using MS Word, emailing, and scheduling software
Requirements
Experience:
Education: Bachelor’s degree
License & Certification:
- Current (state) license as a Registered Nurse
- BLS certification
- ACLS certification
Schedule:
- Must be able to work variable hours and be flexible to meet needs of the center’s daily surgery schedule.
