Position: Registered Nurse in Operating Room

Job Responsibilities

  • Assess patients at intervals as stated in policies and procedures.
  • Develop an individualized perioperative plan of care.
  • Implement the plan of care using various interventions.
  • Protect patient from injury caused by chemicals, electrical, laser, positioning, thermal sources, and extraneous objects.
  • Perform count procedures to protect patient from unintended retained foreign objects.
  • Ensure patientโ€™s procedure is performed on the correct site, side, and level.
  • Manage patientโ€™s specimen(s) appropriately.
  • Communicate patientโ€™s current status throughout the continuum of care.
  • Administer medication(s) appropriately.
  • Maintain patient's wound and tissue perfusion at or above baseline levels.
  • Maintain status of the patientโ€™s systems and balance levels at or above baseline.
  • Ensure the patient is at normothermia at the conclusion of the immediate postoperative period.
  • Protect patient from infection.
  • Educate patient or designated support person on management and responses regarding the procedure.
  • Involve patient or designated support person in decisions affecting care.
  • Protect patientโ€™s rights, dignity, and privacy.
  • Provide culturally competent, age-appropriate, ethical care within legal standards of practice.
  • Evaluate the patientโ€™s progress toward outcomes.
  • Transfer care appropriately.
  • Delegate tasks as per state Nurse Practice Act.
  • Document nursing care.
  • Collaborate effectively with other disciplines.
  • Participate in quality review and performance improvement projects.
  • Participate in the performance appraisal process.
  • Use problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Maintain required competencies.
  • Attend required meetings and educational sessions.
  • Act as a patient advocate and maintain privacy of all appropriate information.

Requirements

Experience: One year experience required in intra-operative setting.

Education: Graduate of an approved school of nursing.

License & Certification:
