Job Responsibilities
- Provides direct patient care under the direction of professional nursing staff.
- Takes vital signs and checks surgical dressings.
- Aids patients with activities of daily living (ADLs) including feeding, bathing, dressing, toileting, and transferring.
- Performs blood draws and collects specimen samples.
- Observes and communicates about the patient’s status to identify needs and provide care.
- Records patient care along the continuum, including ADLs.
- Completes, documents, and reports patient vital signs.
- Assists in admission, transfer, and discharge of patients.
- Participates in cost-effective strategies to optimize patient outcomes.
- Promotes patient safety including fall prevention.
- Maintains order and appearance of patient rooms and work areas.
- Maintains patient care supplies and linens.
- Provides post-mortem care.
- Collaborates with members of the healthcare team to carry out plans of care.
- Measures and documents patient urinary and stool output.
- Assists with indwelling urinary catheter care.
- Conducts blood glucose monitoring.
- Performs venipuncture for drawing blood samples.
- Sets up and operates multiple lead EKG machines.
- Assists with enteral tube feedings via nasogastric or gastrostomy tubes.
- Performs chest physical therapy, tracheal suctioning, and tracheostomy care.
- Assists with dressing changes and provides wound care.
- Assists with collection of patient specimens for laboratory testing.
- Provides orthopedic/rehab device care.
- Precepts and mentors PCT Is and IIs, managing documentation completion.
- Participates in hourly patient rounding in collaboration with the healthcare team.
- Responds to patient triggered alarms.
- Detects, reports, and acts to avoid safety risks.
- Incorporates safe lifting techniques and body mechanics in daily practice.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills
Core Skills
- Current Maryland state certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Preferred Skills
- One (1) year of previous experience
Requirements
Experience: One (1) year of previous experience preferred
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required
License & Certification:
- Current Maryland state certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
