Job Responsibilities
- Assess, plan, coordinate, and evaluate the clinical and operational functions of a nursing unit.
- Ensure quality, cost effective health care is provided by an educated and competent team.
- Promote a safe environment and perform all related job responsibilities safely.
- Demonstrate and support a Professional Practice model for collaboration with interdisciplinary partners.
- Ensure unit operations and employees comply with the Nursing Practice Act and regulatory agency standards.
- Function as a team member to accomplish goals and objectives of the unit and organization.
- Recruit and retain qualified staff; oversee orientation and continuing professional development.
- Delegate effectively and promote shared governance.
- Perform nursing care and assist with treatments, therapies, and procedures.
- Provide and assess effectiveness of patient and family education.
- Participate in performance improvement activities to enhance nursing quality and patient outcomes.
- Assist in developing policies and standards reflecting evidence-based practice.
- Promote shared accountability for professional practice.
- Allocate resources to meet unit needs and maintain budgetary oversight.
Required Skills
Core Skills
- Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing
- Current RN licensure in appropriate state
- Experience in nursing management
Preferred Skills
- Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)
- Previous management experience
- Professional certification in clinical or leadership
Requirements
Experience: Previous management experience preferred
Education: Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing required; MSN preferred
License & Certification:
- Current RN licensure
- BLS required per policy guidelines
- Professional certification required within 1 year of eligibility
