Job Responsibilities

  • Integrates biopsychosocial concepts, cognitive skills, and technically competent practice while providing care to clients.
  • Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates care based on age-specific components.
  • Coordinates care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care.
  • Administers medications and procedures per established policies and guidelines.
  • Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to influence care.
  • Utilizes best practices in the assessment and management of Veterans at risk for suicide.
  • Maintains professional boundaries to protect patient vulnerabilities and act in the best interest of the patient.
  • Participates in MH interdisciplinary treatment team, MH Environment of Care rounds, and psychiatric emergencies.
  • Documents nursing assessments, nursing plan of care, patient safety observations, and environmental safety rounds according to facility policy.
  • Facilitates shift reports, warm hand-offs, and nurse-led psychoeducational groups.
  • Uses therapeutic communication techniques and practices de-escalation techniques.

Requirements

Experience: 2-3 years of recent mental health experience and 1 year Acute Care Experience.

Education: Graduate of a school of professional nursing.

License & Certification:

  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth.
