Job Responsibilities
- Completes timely admissions according to diversion center policy and procedure while prioritizing customer service.
- Evaluates needs and reports pertinent information gathered from admission to the physician, nurses, and social workers.
- Completes the discharge process for consumers according to the policy and procedure.
- Plans, conducts, and documents patient education provided to consumers, both individually and in group settings.
- Educates consumers and their families concerning treatment plans, compliance with medications and their side effects.
- Completes medical and dietary consultations as needed.
- Communicates effectively with the physician and outside agencies regarding the consumer’s physical and mental condition.
- Initiates and implements the multidisciplinary treatment plan.
- Provides emergency care as needed according to policy and procedures.
- Assists consumers with personal care issues including bathing and hygiene routines.
- Demonstrates willingness to work on any unit based on facility needs.
- Recognizes elements of a crisis state and knows how to deescalate or resolve the situation.
- Assists with seclusions and restraints per policy and procedure.
- Manages time and unit supplies to contain hospital costs.
- Documents clinical records in a timely and clear manner per policy.
- Administers patient care and treatment according to nursing standards.
- Serves as Charge Nurse as needed, overseeing routine tasks of other nursing and behavioral staff.
Required Skills
Core Skills
- Knowledge of psychiatric disorders in adult and child populations
- Familiarity with psycho-pharmacy and psychotropic medications
- Crisis intervention and behavior management
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
Preferred Skills
- Experience in a Behavioral Health setting
- Knowledge of cultural diversity and family dynamics
- Familiarity with adult and child growth and development
Requirements
Experience: Experience in psychiatric nursing preferred
Education: Current RN license to practice in the State of Alabama
License & Certification:
