Job Responsibilities

  • Manage staff including interviewing, hiring, training, and evaluating employee performance.
  • Delegate work assignments effectively.
  • Manage operations for quality 24/7 patient care.
  • Assist in managing the department budget.
  • Design and implement a staffing plan in agreement with the Director of Nursing.
  • Monitor patient acuity and staffing through the bi-weekly productivity report.
  • Provide a safe environment for patients and caregivers in compliance with EOC rules.
  • Facilitate development of unit specific standards of care with measurable patient care outcomes.
  • Provide orientation for medical staff to Nursing Services.
  • Promote continuity of patient care by supporting case management activities.
  • Investigate patient complaints and incidents, initiating corrective action as needed.
  • Maintain ongoing evaluation of customer service to ensure convenience of systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, community agency requirements and hospital policies.
  • Select and monitor preceptors for developing their roles in facilitating new grad hires.
  • Design, implement, and evaluate educational programs for staff.
  • Maintain clinical expertise through direct patient care as necessary.
  • Serve as the liaison to internal and external patient care committees and departments.

Required Skills

  • Knowledge of critical care techniques and tools for optimal patient care.
  • Knowledge of procedures during rapid response, code, or stroke call.
  • Skills in evaluating performance and recommending improvements.
  • Skills in managing and training staff.
  • Skill in strategic planning for staffing needs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Preferred Skills

  • Knowledge of infectious diseases, OSHA and CMS requirements, and microbiology for infection control.
  • Skill in analyzing financial and staffing reports.
  • Ability to create and analyze reports based on statistical data.
  • Skill in developing training materials for staff.

Requirements

Experience: Five (5) years of relevant nursing or applicable healthcare experience.

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or related healthcare field with relevant experience.

License & Certification:

  • Current RN license in the state of Arizona
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
