Job Responsibilities

  • Leading and supervising a team of surgical staff, including surgeons, nurses, surgical technologists, and additional support personnel.
  • Managing the surgery schedulers, hiring, training, and evaluating staff performance.
  • Managing daily surgical schedules, optimizing patient flow, and allocating staff resources effectively.
  • Monitoring timecards, time off requests, and surgical suite utilization.
  • Ensuring proper equipment maintenance and facilitating repairs.
  • Overseeing pre-operative, intraoperative, and post-operative patient care.
  • Implementing and monitoring quality improvement initiatives to minimize surgical complications and errors.
  • Adhering to strict infection control protocols and maintaining a sterile environment.
  • Reviewing surgical outcomes and identifying areas for improvement.
  • Ensuring adherence to healthcare regulations, accreditation standards for The Joint Commission, and licensing requirements.
  • Keeping binders up to date and reviewing updates via the JCAHO website.
  • Being present as the primary clinical resource during surveys.
  • Ensuring all logs and books are up to date for CLIA.
  • Ensuring staff competency on the ISTAT, troubleshooting lab machines, and ensuring quarterly API testing is done.
  • Meeting quarterly with the lab director.
  • Scheduling training for staff to keep BLS and ACLS current.
  • Managing MIPS measures with the help of the management staff.
  • Handling OSHA-related issues such as needlesticks and fluid exposures.
  • Monitoring sequelae and managing patient complaints.
  • Facilitating staff flu vaccines and declinations, Hep B Vaccination series, and TB testing.
  • Creating and maintaining a positive work environment.
  • Performing additional duties and services as directed.

Required Skills

Core Skills

  • Advanced degree in nursing (MSN) or healthcare administration degree preferred.
  • Experience as a registered nurse in the operating room.
  • Proven leadership and management skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of surgical procedures, sterile techniques, and patient safety protocols.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledgeable in sterilization procedures and protocols.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills.

Preferred Skills

  • NextGen/EMR knowledge.
