Job Responsibilities

  • Hold 24-hour accountability for quality of patient care and operations management.
  • Strive for optimal patient experience in a cost-effective manner.
  • Provide safe patient care consistent with professional standards and hospital policies.
  • Promote a positive and professional environment.
  • Supervise charge nurses and frontline staff.
  • Involve staff at all levels in Shared Governance and Magnet Forces.
  • Make data-driven decisions.
  • Conduct daily rounding with purpose on charge nurses and patients.
  • Promote effective communication and working relationships within nursing areas and between departments.
  • Lead Unit Council meetings and track progress of activities.
  • Select and retain qualified nursing staff.
  • Work with the Education Department and Human Resources to ensure necessary training and continuing education is available.
  • Lead recruitment and retention activities.
  • Facilitate the training of nursing and other students.
  • Display understanding of governing regulations, including Title 22 and JCAHO requirements.
  • Contribute to development and implementation of performance improvement programs.
  • Establish systems supporting shared governance management.
  • Develop customer service standards.
  • Communicate the role of staff in maintaining a high-performing unit regarding quality.
  • Collect and delegate data elements for Nursing Quality reporting.
  • Ensure timely completion of occurrence reports and notify Risk Management of significant events.
  • Coordinate and integrate department services on multiple levels.
  • Plan for provision of services for oncologic and infusion patients.
  • Ensure policies and procedures support scope of services.
  • Utilize the budget to find effective methods of care delivery.
  • Participate in planning and goal setting for nursing department and unit.
  • Monitor resource utilization and approve deviations from staffing guidelines.
  • Flex staff according to patient acuity, census, and budget guidelines.
  • Approve schedules and time off requests while applying HR policy.
  • Complete payroll activities on time.
  • Serve as coach and mentor to charge nurses and staff.
  • Monitor progress of new hires towards independent practice.
  • Ensure attendance at mandatory education and training programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Preferred Skills

Requirements

Experience: 2 years in a formal management position and 4 years as an RN.

Education: Bachelor's degree in Nursing.

License & Certification:

  • Registered Nurse - RN (California Board of Registered Nursing).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider certification from American Heart Association.
  • Fire Life Safety Training (LA City).
  • Specialty certification from relevant associations.
  • ONS Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Certification.
