Job Responsibilities

  • Accountable for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating a plan of care for a specific patient assignment.
  • Sets priorities when organizing care for patients with varying acuity.
  • Maintains continuity through clear and concise (verbal and written) communication.
  • Documents patient care in compliance with nursing documentation standards.
  • Develops a comprehensive plan of care based on initial assessment data.
  • Creates and documents a comprehensive educational plan for the patient and family.
  • Implements a comprehensive discharge plan utilizing appropriate resources.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of the plan of care and revises as needed.
  • Participates in unit-based quality management and quality improvement programs.
  • Provides a safe environment for patients, staff, family, and visitors.
  • Administers medication safely according to established policies.
  • Performs nursing procedures safely and efficiently.
  • Demonstrates awareness of infection risks and utilizes universal precautions.
  • Interacts with patients, families, and colleagues in a professional manner.
  • Collaborates with other disciplines to develop and evaluate standards of care.
  • Acts as a role model upholding the A.N.A. code of ethics.
  • Participates in developing goals for the unit and its periodic evaluations.
  • Serves on unit-based and organizational committees.
  • Assumes responsibility for personal and professional growth.
  • Shares knowledge and experience with colleagues.
  • Utilizes nursing research findings in clinical practice.
  • Assesses patient's acuity for staffing and assignment decisions.

Requirements

Experience: Current surgical trauma experience preferred.

Education: Graduate of an approved school of nursing; Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing required for newly licensed nurses.

License & Certification:

  • Registered Nurse in Massachusetts

Schedule:

  • 36 scheduled hours weekly
  • Variable night shifts
