Job Responsibilities

Provides care, comfort, and safety of assigned patients under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse.
Assists patients in activities of daily living, including bathing, toileting, oral hygiene, and changing bed linens.
Uses proper techniques to avoid infection of patients and self.
Performs delegated nursing care procedures and procedural assistance as indicated or requested.
Observes patients and reports reactions or changes in condition to appropriate nursing personnel.
Completes close observation documentation.
Distributes patients’ trays and nourishments, fills water pitchers, and assists with feeding patients, if necessary.
Maintains and stocks patients’ rooms in a clean and orderly condition.
Assists in the admission, transfer, and discharge of patients, including securing patients’ valuables and belongings.
Escorts patients as needed, adhering to necessary safety precautions.
Performs routine vital signs, intakes and outputs, weights, and finger sticks for blood sugars.
Obtains lab specimens such as urine collections, sputum cultures, and heel sticks as appropriate.
Sets up O2 therapy and reinforces the use of incentive spirometry as needed.
Conducts bladder scans and performs oral suctioning as directed.
Uses and operates an EKG machine and discontinues an IV/saline lock as directed by the Registered Nurse.
Performs simple dressing changes and manages Foley catheters as directed.
Utilizes electronic medical records for appropriate record keeping.
Cleans and stocks supply shelves.
Performs other related duties as assigned or directed.
Precepts new staff as directed.

Requirements

Experience: At least 1 year of current experience in direct patient care.

Education: High School or GED.

License & Certification:

Current registration with the Maryland State Board of Nursing as a Certified Nursing Assistant.
Certified as a Patient Care Technician (PCT).
Heart saver (CPR Certification).
