Job Title: Staff RN PACU, Fulltime Day Shift

Position: Registered Nurse

Job Type: Full Time

Pay: Competitive salary

Shift: Monday through Friday, 10-hour shifts between 9:30 AM to 8 PM (hours could extend past 8 PM)

Job Responsibilities

  • Assume responsibility and accountability for pre-operative, post-anesthesia, and phase II patient care and their families.
  • Respect and protect patients' rights to confidentiality and privacy.
  • Verify patient identification and ensure presence of necessary documents, laboratory tests, consents, equipment, and radiology images.
  • Deliver patient care through the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Practice the 5 Rights to patient safety when administering medications, blood, or treatments.
  • Adhere to aseptic practices to protect patients from injury and minimize wound contamination.
  • Demonstrate competency in IV insertion and discontinuation.
  • Maintain patented airway for adult and pediatric patients.
  • Manage monitoring and respiratory equipment, fluid lines, tubes, drains, and catheters.
  • Formulate appropriate teaching plans based on patient age and understanding level.
  • Evaluate patients’ readiness for discharge from unit and hospital.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and procedures.
  • Cross-train and rotate to other clinical areas in Perioperative services as needed.
  • Apply basic knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, microbiology, and pharmacology for optimal patient care.
  • Comply with personal protective equipment requirements.
  • Document relevant information, observations, and patient care clearly and timely.
  • Assist with the development and clinical precepting of students and new employees.
  • Maintain equipment and utilize supplies safely and cost-effectively.
  • Comply with hospital attendance policy and departmental staffing policy.
  • Adhere to hospital and departmental dress code policy and procedures.
  • Complete required training and education.
  • Communicate and collaborate with all members of the health care team.
  • Display a positive attitude and work to achieve a respectful and compassionate environment.
  • Formulate and maintain effective working relationships with peers and managers.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of multi-modality pain management for orthopedic surgery patients.

Required Skills

Core Skills

  • Current Connecticut nursing license
  • BSN Preferred
  • BLS/ACLS certification required
  • PALS certification within first year of hire
  • Minimum 2 years previous experience in a hospital or ambulatory surgical center setting required

Preferred Skills

  • ICU/ED experience preferred
  • Peri anesthesia certification preferred

Requirements

Experience: Minimum 2 years previous experience in either a hospital or ambulatory surgical center setting required.

Education: BSN preferred.

License & Certification:

  • Current Connecticut nursing license
  • BLS/ACLS certification
  • PALS certification within first year of hire
